The Top 100 Companies published by The Business Times at the end of October each year.  The above table gives the first five.

The  companies are ranked on the basis, R10 000 is spent purchasing the share five years ago.  The period begins at the beginning on 1st September 2010 and ends at the end of August 2015.  Dividends and special bonuses are reinvested (compounded) and added to the share price.  The winner is the company earning the most for the shareholder as of the end of August 2015.

For the first time a property company, Fortress Income Fund features at the top. I wonder if the above is a wake call for some portfolio managers. Three of the top five are relatively unknown.
